The Duo: Erica Hood + Owen Roberts
MassArt alumni Erica Hood (’14) and Owen Roberts (’15) have been co-teaching ceramics workshops together for over 10 years. They enjoy sharing their passion of ceramics with the public and design each workshop to be technical, hands on, and approachable by all skill levels. Together they have co-taught workshops at MassArt in Boston MA, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle ME, and The Clay School in Lynn MA.

Raku
Erica + Owen have completed 50+ Raku firings over the past 12 years and have successfully fired hundreds of pieces. They have a technical approach to teaching Western-Style Raku and focus on teaching glazing techniques in relation to surface composition. Their goal is to have students methodically plan and execute their glaze designs and then take part in the firing itself. Their approach to the Horse Hair Raku process is very similar, and they encourage experimentation, sustainability, and of course creativity . They enjoy any opportunity to have the public come together and take part in a communal firing no matter that their skill level is.
Sculpture
Erica + Owen are narrative based sculptors living in Attleboro MA. Although their artwork is drastically different from one another, they both share a passion for sculpting animals.
Owen’s work is influenced by human impact on animals, conservation, the environment and humor. Erica is a conceptual artist, who creates pieces inspired by her own lived experiences, familial relationships, friendships and her own mental health.
